Referee Blues no Green in HYSA

Coaches, players and parents like to complain about HYSA referees. They are too slow, too old, too young, same ones over and over, why can't we get good referees, they miss the most important question, what can I do to help. Each club has a required quota of games that their designated referees have to accomplish in a season or their club teams can not go to playoffs. This means that the referees give up time with their family, work time, free time and sometimes miss out in watching thier own kids play. That is understood and it is a job for which they are paid, right? Well it might suprise you to know that those referees that some of you are complaining about have been doing games all season without recieving a single check, but they keep doing the games because they know it has to be done and if they don't all the players from their club could suffer. They get to drive to another club (you can't do games at your own club or a game involving your team), spend the gas money, get grief from parents (some who don't understand the rules but know how o yell hand ball every ten minutes) and miss out on other things they could be doing because they love the game and don't want the kids to miss out on a chance to play. So the next time you see a referee you might want to thank them for what they are doing to make the game possible, even when they aren't getting paid.

HS Girls soccer

Is it just our HS or does every HS treat the girls teams as 2nd class students, despite the fact that they are one of the most successful sports programs at the school.

Referees

As I sit on the side watching games I hear parents and coaches yelling at the referee, "oh come on" "what game are you watching", ""let them play, "are you going to call anything", and the dreaded "thank you". We are fortunate in this area that we have several very good young referees, but we will lose them if coaches and parents continue to verbally abuse them. I have seen U-10 coaches scream at a young referee that they missed a call, and have seen good referees decide that the pay was not worth the abuse.
