Referees

As I sit on the side watching games I hear parents and coaches yelling at the referee, "oh come on" "what game are you watching", ""let them play, "are you going to call anything", and the dreaded "thank you". We are fortunate in this area that we have several very good young referees, but we will lose them if coaches and parents continue to verbally abuse them. I have seen U-10 coaches scream at a young referee that they missed a call, and have seen good referees decide that the pay was not worth the abuse.

U-10 coaches screaming at a ref? Where's the league official?

Typically, the SAME coaches, week in and week out, are the abusive ones. The LEAGUE needs to POLICE the coaches and suspend them for a week for an isolated incident or kick them out of the league FOREVER for habitual conduct. A league official should be on patrol to handle such problems as they arise.

Regardless, the referee can terminate a match if the situation arises (Law 5). I've never been in such a situation, but if the situation warranted, I'd blow the whistle and inform the coaches that the match was terminated, explain why, and then grab my bag and leave.
